Teaching Support

Classroom Live Streaming and Recording

This fall, there could be a variety of COVID-related emergency requests as our instructors, TAs, and students may be ill. If you need flexible options in terms of hybrid
and/or online teaching
, please contact forestry.tls@ubc.ca for discussion, demo, and support.

To schedule the classroom live streaming and recording, please submit your request at least 2 business days before your class to Central AV via this link. For more information, please check out this website. You can follow the steps in this tip-sheet to fill out the reservation
form.

Canvas Video Uploads Reminder

If you are planning to upload videos to Canvas, please do it via Kaltura and embed them into Canvas pages as needed. The file system in each Canvas course only has 4.2 GB of storage, while Kaltura has unlimited space. This will prevent your Canvas course from running out of storage space. Please check out pages 7-16 in this
tip-sheet
for using Kaltura on Canvas.

UG Labs and Software

IT Support

For general IT needs, please contact forestry.ithelp@ubc.caTo request
remote UG lab access, please email forestry.ithelp@ubc.ca and cc forestry.tls@ubc.ca.

Adobe Use in UG Labs
For Photoshop and Illustrator access in the UG labs, as well as Course Based Masters’ laptops, please refer to the
attached PDF for instructions on gaining access.

ArcGIS Pro 3.0 Now Available
ArcGIS Pro 3.0 is now available. Users should plan for their labs to all upgrade at the same time. If teaching with ArcGIS Pro, do not upgrade, stay with ArcGIS Pro 2.9
until summer 2023.

ArcGIS 3.0 saved projects and project templates cannot be opened in 2.x. It only works if using ArcGIS 3.0 to save the projects as the 2.9 version, and ArcGIS 3.0 created project packages can be opened as a project in 2.x. When asking for ArcGIS Pro 3.0, please consider how you share your files before proceeding ahead with the upgrade. Email forestry.ithelp@ubc.ca for
installation help with ArcGIS pro 3.0.

Open Educational Resources

Online Textbook on Scholarly Writing

Lindsay Cuff, Assistant Professor of Teaching, created an open online textbook
on scholarly writing in Forestry and Land and Food Systems
with the help of an Open Educational Resources Implementation Grant from UBC CTLT.

If you have writing in your courses,
Lindsay suggests that you can check
out this textbook and it might be useful for your students.
