Central Updates

Changes Coming in W2 to Publisher Content and Tools in Canvas

Willo Labs has been used to include publisher content and tools in UBC Canvas courses. Examples of this type of content/tool include Achieve, WileyPlus, Connect, InQuizitive, MindTap, and Mastering. These tools, often bundled with textbooks, requrie instructors to coordinate setup directly with the publishers.
Recently, Willo Labs was abruptly discontinued. A new way is being explored to include publisher content and tools in Canvas courses.

If your Canvas has publisher content and tools mentioned above, note that:
– You will not experience any impact on course content this term.
– Students will not lose access to paid course content this term.
– For multi-term courses, students will need to contact the LT Hub in W2 to regain access to paid course content.
– You will not need to update existing orders for W2 course content.
– You may need to take extra steps to update your publisher-based course materials in Canvas to prepare them for W2.

Reminders

Forestry Check-In Survey 2024W1

The Forestry Teaching & Learning Support Team has prepared a check-in survey for students. Instructors can share the survey link in their Canvas courses. After the survey feedback is collected, instructors will receive course-specific results via email. Note that the deadline for students to complete the survey is Nov 15.

Using External Learning Technologies in Teaching

A friendly reminder that external learning technologies need to pass UBC’s Privacy Impact Assessment (PIA) before implementation in teaching.

If you need to use an external learning technology for your courses, feel free to contact the TLS team (forestry.tls@ubc.ca) for support and consultation. Note that all tools supported by UBC LT Hub undergo a PIA to receive central technical and pedagogical support.
