Student Support Resources

Resources for Students

The final push to the end of term can be challenging for students’ mental health. Some of you
may come across students in distress and this email serves to reorient you to the resources available to students who may need support.

UBC’s Student Mental Health Provider

Here2Talk is the new student mental health assistance provider. It allows UBC students to have immediate access to counselling and community referral services across phone, online chat, and mobile app.

Its services are free and available 24/7, in multiple languages.

UBC Health and Wellness

The Wellness Centre is open for all students to drop-in, and is a friendly, peer-hosted space that offers many wellbeing programs for students. Learn more here.

Embedded Counselling

Students within the faculty of Forestry are able to book a 1:1 session with Nicole, embedded mental health counsellor. If students are interested in booking a session, please direct them to call Counselling Services at 604-822-3811 and indicate that they are a Forestry student. Click here for more details.



Teaching Awards

OER Awards

Starting this year, UBC is launching a new Open Educational Resources award program, in alignment with one of the recommendations from the Student Affordability Task Force report in March, 2022. Lead nominees must be faculty members with a current appointment, though folks in other roles can be part of a group award.

Please see the OER Award web page for criteria and details. The deadline for nominations is Nov 30, 2023.

West Coast Teaching Excellence Awards

The West Coast Teaching Excellence Awards, are regional awards hosted by the BC Teaching and Learning Council. Nominees can either be individual faculty
members or teaching teams, and the award focuses on excellent teaching at the undergraduate level. Please see the award web page for criteria and details.

We host weekly drop-in session to answer teaching related questions. Instructors and TAs are welcome to join the Zoom meeting.

CTLT: Winter Institute

The Winter Institute serves as a platform for members of the teaching and learning community to create and optimize learning environments for all.

Digital Assessments in a World with GenAI
Time: Dec 12 (1:30 – 2:30 pm) | In-person
Explore the shift to digital assessments in large undergraduate courses using Generative AI. Discover how PrairieLearn is used in computer science labs. Facilitators include Rose Loftus, undergraduate student in forestry. More information here.
