Seatr | Exam Seating System Pilot

Having challenges in managing seating for in-person exams? Seatr, a UBC exam seating system, can be a potential solution.
-It randomly assigns seats to students when they enter the exam room (see the picture below).
-It automatically tracks attendance.
-It helps verify the student info during the exam.
If you are interested in piloting the system, please contact forestry.tls@ubc.ca at your earliest convenience before the next exam or quiz, and we will set it up for you.

Call for Proposals: UBC Emerging Media Lab Projects

Interested in working with VR, AR, or AI? Faculty Members at UBC Vancouver are invited to submit a proposal to the Emerging Media Lab on how to incorporate these technologies into teaching, learning, or research.
The deadline for submitting proposals is March 15. Learn more here.

Call for Papers: Natural Sciences Education Journal

The 2024 NSE journal seeks contributions for its special issue on experiences with GenAI in education, emphasizing impacts on critical thinking, innovative assessment strategies, and best practices to guide student use.
The deadline for letters of intent is April 30. Learn more here

Faculty Reminders

Grades Submission Deadline

Grades for all courses this term must be submitted to the Faculty Service Centre (FSC):
(1) within 7 working days following the fina exam date (grades on Canvas do not count as submitted)
(2) by April 26 for courses without final exams.
(3) by May 3 if the final exam is written on the last 2 days of the exam period.
(4) by May 3 if the final grades or grades-to-date are for graduating students. Delays
will result in students unable to graduate.
More details about how to submit grades to FSC can be found here.
Note: FSC will continue to be used until Aug 30, 2024 for grade entry for course sections related to 2023 Winter and 2024 Summer.
– All courses must have a grade or standing (no more blanks) in order for
WorkDay Student to work.
– In 2024W, faculty will upload grades to WorkDay Student, and instructions/training will be provided.

Teaching Software for Forestry UG Computer Labs

If you have required teaching softwar for your summer courses, please submit this

to forestry.ithelp@ubc.ca.
The requested teaching software will be installed in Forestry UG Labs by May 7.For courses using ArcGIS Pro, pleas also send your course codes to gis.forestry@ubc.ca a week before class begins.

 

Teaching Funding Opportunities

Student as Partners Fund

The Student as Partners (SaP) Fund supports UBC Vancouver undergraduate students in collaboration with faculty to redesign UBC Vancouver undergraduate courses. Visit SaP’s website for more details. All applications should be submitted to SaP’s application portal by April 2, at 3:00 PM.

Open Education Resources (OER) Rapid Innovation Grants

UBC Vancouver faculty, students, and staff are eligible to apply for funding for diverse activities and events that seek to engage the UBC community in supporting and sustaining the adoption and creation of OER. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis until the allotted funds are exhausted. Feel free to visit the website or apply here.

Scholarship of Teaching & Learning Dissemination Fund

Full-time faculty can apply for this award, which supports the publication of research on teaching and learning in higher education with direct implications for UBC. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis. More information can be found here.
