Professional Development Events

To welcome all new faculty members, including those new to teaching or new to UBC, CTLT is currently offering a variety of programs and events to help streamline the onboarding process.

New Faculty Teaching Orientation

Time: Aug 17 (10 am — 12:30pm) | Online & In-person
This orientation is designed to welcome and support new instructors as they navigate their roles and responsibilities at the institution. Register here.

This cohort program supports faculty members across UBC campuses in their professional growth as educators.

Funding

Call for Large TLEF Projects

Faculty and staff at UBC Vancouver are invited to submit letters of intent (LOI) for Large Teaching and Learning Enhancement Fund (TLEF) Transformation projects by
3 pm on July 13, 2023.

Projects are eligible to receive up to $200,000 in funding and can span up to three years.

We encourage you to discuss your large TLEF ideas (in advance of the deadline) with Sarah Gergel, Associate Dean Academic or a Program Director.

Video Needs Assessment: Open Feedback Sessions

UBC aims to enhance existing video platforms to meet the growing demand in teaching and learning. Any UBC faculty, student, or staff member can drop in the following sessions to share your expectations, experiences, and suggestions regarding a suitable video platform for the university.

UBC Zoom & Teams Video Retention Policy

Starting in October 2023,
UBC will automatically remove video recordings from Zoom and Microsoft Teams
one year after each video is recorded.
This new video retention policy will affect all faculty, staff, and student employees who use UBC accounts to record with these tools. Detailed instructions can be found

Workshops & Events

Forestry Teaching & Learning Drop-in Sessions

Time: Fridays (11 am – 12 pm)
We host weekly drop-in session to answer teaching related questions. Instructors and TAs are welcome to join the
Zoom meeting.

CTLT Data Visualization for Teaching & Learning

Time: June 29 (1 – 2:30 pm)
This session will provide examples of easy ways to improve visualizations of teaching and learning project outcomes, and discuss why some visualization types are clearer than others. Learn about guiding principles for creating your own visualizations. This session will not walk attendees through the creation of the visualizations.

Indigenous Initiatives Design Series for STEM

Time: July 25, July 27, August 1 (9:30am – 12:30pm)
This is a 3-part workshop for instructors and members of the UBC teaching and learning community who come to Indigenous topics with varying levels of knowledge and expertise. Throughout the series, participants will be guided to share practices, redesign elements of their teaching and learning projects and resources, model and explore educational materials, and reframe common learning scenarios through classroom climate principles.
