Newsletter Hiatus

The Teaching & Learning Newsletter will be taking a summer hiatus and will return in mid-August before things kick off again for the new winter term.

In the mean time, if you have any questions, comments, or concerns regarding learning and teaching technologies or course design, please contact the TLS team. You can contact Michelle Zeng (Senior Manager, Education Strategies) at michelle.zeng@ubc.ca.
Michelle leads Forestry’s Teaching and Learning Support (TLS) team, which specializes in supporting faculty and students as they navigate both online and offline teaching and learning. You can contact the TLS team at forestry.tls@ubc.ca.

If you are looking for resources and documentation on different learning technologies, as well as step-by-step guides, please visit the Teaching and Learning team’s website here. You can also find an archive of old newsletters on the same site. More resources can also be found on the Forestry PFFAC Canvas site here.

Central Updates

Name Changes in Canvas and Other Services

LT hub is updating how learning technology
systems at UBC determine what name to display for you. These changes will be implemented on July 27, 2022.

If you are a faculty or staff member working for UBC, you can set your preferred first and last name in Workday. Canvas
and other technologies will use this name.

Learn more about the update here.

RefWorks Subscription is Ending

UBC Library has made the decision to end the subscription to the RefWorks citation management software as of September 30, 2022.

There is support in place to make the transition away from RefWorks to other
supported services (such as Zotero
and Mendeley), which you can find here.

If you need any assistance with migrating to a new tool, please contact research.commons@ubc.ca.
