TA Training Program Coordinators

The Faculty of Forestry is looking for 4 graduate students who are experienced and exemplary TAs to support the development, delivery, and assessment of the TA Training Program with positions spanning from March 2023 to June 2024.

Workshops & Events

Malcolm Knapp Research Forest Courses & Workshops

 See here for information to register for course offerings at the research forest. Courses are intended for UBC Faculty, staff, TAs, and students.

Forestry Teaching & Learning Drop-in Sessions

Time: Fridays (1:00 – 2:00 pm)

We host weekly drop-in session to answer teaching related questions. Instructors and TAs are welcome to join the Zoom meeting.

Introduction to Scholarship of Teaching & Learning (SoTL)

Time: Feb 16 (10 – 11:30 am)

Learn how to start the journey of becoming a SoTL practitioner and explore how to overcome common challenges for initiating a SoTL project. Register here.



Funding & Central Updates

Student as Partners Fund

The Student as Partners (SaP) Fund supports UBCV undergraduate students in collaboration with faculty to redesign UBCV undergraduate courses. The proposed budgets must not exceed $7,100 per course. Visit SaP’s website for more details. All applications should be submitted to SaP’s application portal by February 24, 2023, at 3:00 PM.

Scholarship of Teaching & Learning Dissemination Fund

The fund supports the publications of research on teaching and learning in higher education with direct implications for UBC. The call is open on a rolling basis. More information can be found
here.

2023 UBC CTLT Spring Institute Call for Proposals

CTLT invites proposals that demonstrate purposeful innovation in teaching practices, educational research, student services, and learning technology that support student success and experiences. For more information, please visit

Please submit your proposal by noon on March 14, 2023 using the
proposal submission form.

Awards

Jordan L. Burke Memorial Award in Forestry & Killam Graduate Teaching Assistant Award

Only 1 TA nomination submission is required to be considered for both competitions.

Jordan L. Burke Memorial Award Prizes:
First Prize | $5,000 (and forwarded as the UBC Forestry Killam Award designate)

Second Prize | $2,500

Killam Graduate Teaching Assistant (GTA) Award Prize:

Killam Award Certificate | $1,000

Consolidated Deadline: Friday March 3, 2023 (11:59 PM).
