End of Term Reminders

Final Exam Support

As the final exam season approaches (see the UBC Exam Dates and Deadlines), we organized the following tip-sheets to help teaching teams plan and deliver exams.

To understand the intricacies of UBC exam policies, academic accommodation and concession, invigilation and student conduct during exams, viewing marked exams, and more, feel free to check out this tip-sheet.

In addition, about the technical tips on the logistics for various exam options (e.g., in-person paper exam, in-person computer exam, and online Canvas exam), please refer to this tip-sheet.

A gentle reminder for all instructors to submit final student grades to the Faculty Service Centre (FSC) after posting the grades on Canvas:

(1) 7 business days following the examination date, OR

(2) 5 days following examination dates written on the last 2 days of the examination period.

Before uploading final course grades, make sure the required data columns are visible for grades entry and upload, and your selected file format allows the ability to upload grades. For the full detailed instructions on uploading grades, go to the
FSC User Guide (see page 16 onwards).

For questions or assistance, feel free to contact the Forestry Teaching & Learning Support Team forestry.tls@ubc.ca
in advance for exam support.

New Term Preparation

Canvas and Educational Technology Training & Resources

If you have questions about Canvas and educational technologies, feel free to check out the Canvas Training & Resources Canvas Site (view here).
It compiles the key resources for setting up Canvas courses for instructors, teaching assistants, and staff in the Faculty of Forestry.

New Forestry Field Equipment Procedure

There is a new email address to submit all equipment requests: field.equip@ubc.ca.
The teaching equipment requests should be made by faculty members only. TAs can be delegated to pick up and return the equipment if specifically mentioned and named in the request email. Trimble lab equipment requests should be made by faculty and research staff only.

Please provide at least 1-week notice, and promptly return all gear as scheduled. UBC card is required for equipment sign-out.
Please send your requests for next term by mid-December.

Available Software in Forestry

See the latest IT One Pager
for a current listing for IT and related contact info. The updated Forestry Software List summarizes commonly used or requested software. This list does not represent what is currently installed in the UG labs nor CBM laptops.
For questions and general IT needs, please contact
forestry.ithelp@ubc.ca.
To request remote UG lab access for teaching and learning, please email
forestry.ithelp@ubc.ca and copy forestry.tls@ubc.ca.

Student Support Resources

Resources for Students

The final push to the end of term can be challenging for students’ mental health. Some of you may come across students in distress and this email serves to reorient you to the resources available to students who may need support.

UBC’s Student Mental Health Provider

Here2Talk is the new student mental health assistance provider. It allows UBC students to have immediate access to counselling and community referral services across phone, online chat, and mobile app. Its services are free and available 24/7, in multiple languages.

Embedded Counselling

Students within the Faculty of Forestry are able to book a 1:1 session with our embedded mental health counsellor. If students are interested in booking a session, please direct them to call Counselling Services at 604-822-3811 and indicate that they are a Forestry student.
